Malawi's Amped Innovation and GIT Partner to Extend Solar Solutions to 70,000 Rural Households
Two Malawian startups, Green Impact Technologies (GIT) and Amped Innovation, have joined hands in a concerted effort to address the persistent issue of limited electricity access in rural areas of the country.
Their collaborative endeavor aims to extend solar power solutions to at least 70,000 households by June 2024, marking a significant stride in enhancing the quality of life for residents currently grappling with unreliable electricity sources.
This ambitious project has received a substantial boost in the form of a $20 million grant from the Malawi Off-Grid Market Development Fund (OGMDF), also referred to as the Ngwee Ngwee Ngwee Fund (NNNF).
Funded by the World Bank, the NNNF is dedicated to fostering the expansion of electricity access through off-grid solar technologies and catalyzing the growth of this sector within the Malawian market.
Andi Kleissner, Co-CEO of Amped Innovation, expressed optimism about the partnership, stating, “This partnership will bring much-needed energy access to rural communities.”
He emphasized that access to reliable solar power would not only enhance daily living standards but also bolster the agricultural sector and empower communities to withstand the challenges posed by climate change.
