Abdulaziz Al-Saud, CEO and co-founder of Barakah, a Saudi enterprise dedicated to transforming food security, told Nour El-Shaeri for Arab News that “over the past decade, Saudi Arabia has made significant strides in bolstering its food security.”

Saudi Arabia, underlined by Al-Saud, is focusing on diversifying and localizing food sources to reduce reliance on imports through significant investments in agri-tech and acquiring overseas farmland.

Precision agriculture, utilizing data analytics, drones, and IoT, is being heavily invested in to monitor crop health, manage irrigation, and control pests.

Additionally, reducing food waste, especially at the household level, is seen as essential for a sustainable future.

As the Middle East and North Africa Climate Week approaches, global leaders are set to convene in Riyadh to discuss the region's sustainability measures and achievements, covering climate, food security, and related topics through workshops, panel discussions, and fireside chats.
