Saudi Arabian education technology company AILA has raised US$3 million in Pre-Series A funding, marking the next stage of its expansion as it develops AI-native tools for personalized learning.

The round was led by Rua Growth Fund, a Riyadh-based venture capital fund focused on technology startups in Saudi Arabia and the wider MENA region. Rua was established in 2020 and invests across early-stage technology companies.

The financing also attracted participation from Jo Academy, 500 Global, Bunat VC, and Fikr Ventures. Jo Academy is joining not only as an investor but also as a strategic partner, bringing experience from Jordan's EdTech market and its broader regional expansion.

AILA's latest financing adds to a growing relationship between Saudi and Jordanian EdTech ecosystems. In February 2025, Jo Academy itself raised a US$28 million Series B, led by a syndicate of Jordanian and Saudi investment funds including Rua Growth Fund. Jo Academy had captured more than 35% of Jordan's Tawjihi student market at the time of that investment.

How Does AILA Use AI to Personalize Learning?

AILA is building an AI-native education platform designed to adapt learning to the needs and progress of individual students.

Its technology is designed to:

  • Identify individual learning gaps and areas where students need additional support.
  • Personalize learning content, practice, and assessment based on student progress.
  • Provide students with targeted support throughout their learning journey.
  • Give teachers and school leaders clearer visibility into student performance.
  • Help educators determine where additional intervention or support is required.

The company's current product portfolio includes AILA Tests, an AI-native learning platform focused on personalized exam preparation for schools, and AILA Labs, its research and development hub for developing and testing new AI-powered education solutions.

AILA's own media center identifies AILA Tests and AILA Labs among its core product areas, with content published around AI-enhanced learning, quiz generation, AI tutoring, and personalized education.

The company's approach places assessment data at the center of personalized learning. Rather than treating testing as an endpoint, AILA aims to use assessment results to identify proficiency levels, uncover learning gaps, and guide targeted practice.

This model is also central to the investment thesis behind the round. Turki Aljoaib, Managing Partner at Rua Growth Fund, said the fund was attracted by AILA's ability to turn assessment data into actionable insights for educators and targeted practice for students. Aljoaib has been active in the technology startup sector since 2016 and joined Rua as Managing Partner.

Where Will AILA Invest Its New Funding?

AILA plans to deploy the US$3 million investment across three main priorities:

  1. Geographic expansion: Entering new regional and international markets.
  2. Product development: Advancing the platform's AI-powered learning capabilities and overall learning experience.
  3. Market reach: Bringing AILA's technology to more students, educators, schools, and education systems.

The strategy reflects AILA's ambition to move beyond a Saudi-focused EdTech product and establish a broader regional and international footprint.

Rua's existing positioning also aligns with this strategy. The fund describes its focus as supporting technology ventures across Saudi Arabia and the MENA region, combining investment capital with strategic and operational expertise.

What Do AILA and Its Investors Say About the Funding?

Yousef Alsayed, CEO of AILA, said the investment will allow the company to bring personalized, AI-native learning to more students as education systems across the region reassess how technology can support learning.

Alaa Jarrar, CEO of Jo Academy, said Arabic-speaking students need learning experiences designed specifically for them rather than solutions that are simply translated into Arabic. He added that AILA's traction with Saudi schools demonstrates strong product-market fit.

Jarrar also said Jo Academy invested because it believes the future of regional EdTech will increasingly be built by local innovators.

For Rua Growth Fund, the investment is an opportunity to support Saudi-built education technology with potential applications across regional school systems.

Turki Aljoaib said:

“AILA is building an AI-native assessment platform that helps schools and teachers understand each student's proficiency, identify learning gaps, and focus support where it is needed most.”

He added that Rua was particularly attracted to AILA's ability to translate assessment data into actionable insights for educators and targeted practice for students.

What Does AILA's Funding Mean for Saudi EdTech?

The US$3 million Pre-Series A gives AILA additional capital to scale its technology, expand geographically, and deepen its presence among schools and education systems.

The investment also brings strategic value through a group of investors with experience across technology and education. In particular, Jo Academy's participation could strengthen AILA's access to the Jordanian and broader regional EdTech ecosystem, while Rua brings an established Saudi investment platform and regional network.

The partnership between the two companies is notable given Jo Academy's existing scale in Jordan. The company was founded in 2014 and had reached more than 35% of the country's Tawjihi student market by early 2025.

For AILA, the immediate objective is clear: use its new capital to expand beyond its existing market while continuing to develop AI-native tools that connect assessment, personalized learning, and educator insights.

Its longer-term ambition is to become a leading AI-native education platform and make personalized learning accessible to students at scale across regional and international education systems.
