WhatsApp Enhances Video Calling on iOS by Introducing New AR Filters and Touch-Up Features
Meta's popular messaging app WhatsApp is set to upgrade its video calling capabilities with new augmented reality (AR) features. According to recent reports, WhatsApp is rolling out enhancements similar to those found in FaceTime and Google Meet. While these features have been in development for Android, the app is now expanding them to iOS devices.
The latest beta version of WhatsApp for iOS (24.17.10.74), available through Apple's TestFlight, introduces a range of new AR-based features. These include various call effects and filters that allow users to modify their appearance during video calls. The update features swipeable filters that adjust the color tone of your face and add elements to enhance your look. Users can also choose from a selection of backgrounds, such as a beach scene or a blurred effect, to personalize their video call experience.
Additionally, WhatsApp will be adding a low-light mode to improve video call visibility in dim environments. This feature, which will not be enabled by default, can be activated via a toggle. Another enhancement, the touch-up mode, will offer real-time skin smoothing, blemish removal, and added gloss, functioning as a specialized filter for facial improvements.
