VAS2Nets, a Nigerian tech firm, has partnered with Telness Tech, Lebara, and Procescom to introduce a new Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) in Nigeria. This collaboration aims to reshape the country's telecommunications landscape by leveraging cutting-edge technology and global expertise.
Nigeria, Africa's largest economy with over 220 million active mobile subscriptions, presents immense potential for telecom innovations. Despite its large subscriber base, mobile internet penetration remains at approximately 41.56%, highlighting significant room for growth.
The MVNO model, which enables telecom services without requiring infrastructure ownership, is still nascent in Nigeria. The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) introduced MVNO licensing in August 2022 to foster competition, innovation, and affordable telecom solutions. VAS2Nets is one of 46 companies licensed under this framework.
The new MVNO is powered by an international partnership:
- Telness Tech provides fully automated operational and business systems for seamless functionality.
- Lebara, a prominent MVNO in Europe, takes a major step into the African market.
- VAS2Nets, leading the project locally, brings its deep understanding of the Nigerian market.
- Procescom ensures a robust and reliable mobile core infrastructure.
Martina Klingvall, CEO of Telness Tech, highlighted the significance of this collaboration: “This international partnership combines advanced telecom technology, global expertise, and local market knowledge to bring world-class service to Nigeria's digital population.”
