UAE's TDRA Unveils Ambitious Strategy for Advancing 6G Mobile Networks
The UAE's Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority (TDRA) has revealed an ambitious strategy aimed at driving research and studies into the advancement of International Mobile Telecommunications technology (IMT2030), commonly known as the sixth generation of mobile networks (6G).
This proactive move by the TDRA acknowledges the rapidly evolving landscape of International Mobile Telecommunications (IMT) and underscores the necessity for detailed technical specifications to enhance the functionality and performance of mobile systems.
The initiative not only seeks to meet the changing demands of society and the economic sector but also strives to bridge the existing gap between current communication services and future requirements.
The overarching objective is to cultivate a fully integrated, digitally connected way of life in the years to come.
This unveiling of the roadmap is in line with the resolutions made during the Radiocommunication Assembly 2023 (RA-23), which was held in the UAE from November 13 to 17, 2023.
At the assembly, a resolution was passed urging stakeholders in the communications sector to prioritize the development of radio technical standards and specifications for the sixth generation of IMT.
Of particular significance is the endorsement by RA-23 of Recommendation (ITU-R M. 2160), which outlines the framework for 6G, referred to as IMT-2030.
This endorsement lays the groundwork for the forthcoming development of network standards, signaling a significant step forward in the evolution of telecommunications technology.
