TechnoPulm has successfully raised $2 million to develop a groundbreaking handheld device designed to perform full lung function tests, replacing the need for bulky, costly equipment. This innovation promises to transform lung diagnostics for millions of Americans, offering a more accessible and efficient solution.

Chronic respiratory diseases (CRDs) contribute significantly to the global burden of noncommunicable diseases. TechnoPulm highlights that over 600 million people worldwide suffer from CRDs, with 300 million battling chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), which claims 3.2 million lives annually, making it the third leading cause of death globally. Asthma also remains a major issue, affecting 250 million people, particularly children.

TechnoPulm’s portable device weighs just 400 grams and performs a complete lung function test in under three minutes, making it a game-changer for doctors and patients alike. Traditionally, patients would need to visit a specialized lung function laboratory in a hospital, often delaying diagnoses for weeks or even months.

The device was conceived by Dr. Igor Krivtz, a specialist in fluid dynamics and thermodynamics, after he observed the inefficiencies in current lung function testing technology. Drawing on his experience in military technology, Dr. Krivtz, alongside Shabat Negry, who has led multiple startups, developed the innovative tool that could shift the way respiratory diseases are diagnosed and monitored.

TechnoPulm aims to address the gap in timely COPD diagnosis, where nearly half of the patients are diagnosed more than a decade too late. With this handheld solution, the process becomes faster, more cost-effective, and easier to administer in a regular physician’s office.
