'Tasreef': Dubai's Ambitious $8.2 Billion Rainwater Collection Initiative
Dubai has greenlit the 'Tasreef' project, a colossal AED30 billion ($8.2 billion) endeavour aimed at bolstering the emirate's rainwater drainage capabilities.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President and Dubai's Ruler, hailed it as the region's most extensive rainwater collection system.
Set to expand Dubai's drainage capacity by 700 percent, the project is designed to fortify the city against future climate challenges.
Anticipated to collect over 20 million cubic meters of rainwater daily, it promises to meet Dubai's water needs for the next century.
The comprehensive initiative, spanning all parts of Dubai, surpasses existing infrastructure in its rain absorption capacity.
Commencing immediately, the project will unfold in phases, concluding by 2033.
Sheikh Mohammed emphasized its role in sustaining and advancing Dubai's urban landscape, ensuring heightened safety and security for all residents.
