Spanish Ambassador Pledges Enhanced Maritime Cooperation with Nigeria
Spanish Ambassador to Nigeria, Ambassador Juan Ignacio Sell, expressed the Spanish Government's eagerness to strengthen ties with Nigeria, particularly through increased collaboration with the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA).
During an inspection of two newly built bulletproof security boats for NIMASA by Spanish Company, Aresa, Ambassador Juan emphasized the significance of enhancing maritime security cooperation between Spain and Nigeria.
Highlighting Nigeria's pivotal role in ensuring security in the Gulf of Guinea, Ambassador Juan revealed Spain's commitment, including the deployment of a naval ship in the region to bolster security efforts.
Ambassador Juan underscored the directive from the Spanish president to the embassy to pursue further partnerships with Nigeria in the maritime sector.
He commended President Bola Tinubu's establishment of the Marine and Blue Economy Ministry as a testament to Nigeria's dedication to harnessing oceanic resources, affirming Spain's readiness to offer support.
In response, NIMASA's Director-General, Dr. Dayo Mobereola, affirmed the agency's prioritization of deploying the newly acquired vessels.
He emphasized the imperative of collaborative efforts in maritime security, welcoming Spain's partnership in this endeavor.
Dr. Mobereola pledged swift action under his leadership to facilitate the swift deployment of the patrol boats.
