Smart Solutions by the Dubai Roads & Transport Authority to Automate Services

03 October 2023•

The Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has implemented advanced smart technology solutions to automate services, aiming to enhance convenience and ease for citizens in line with the Emirate's digital transformation plan for 2025.

Various services have been upgraded utilizing cutting-edge technology, contributing to a more streamlined and efficient experience for residents, including:

  • Taxi App — Residents and tourists now have the flexibility to book taxis and limousines around the clock, in addition to an hourly rental service. The recently launched Dubai Taxi Corporation app encompasses a "Lost and Found" section, location sharing, route particulars, and estimated arrival times.
  • Driving Licenses — Introducing the "Click and Drive" initiative, the entire administrative process for obtaining driving licenses has been digitized, resulting in a 75% reduction in waiting times. This innovative service even incorporates a mobile eye-testing facility.
  • Free Parking Permits — Digital parking permits are now accessible, eliminating the need for physical printing or display. Utilizing the RTA Dubai app, users can digitally register up to five vehicles, activating one at a time.
  • nol Pay App — The nol Pay app has been upgraded to facilitate payments for transport fares, parking, tourist attractions, and shopping. Users can instantly replenish their balances and easily register through digital IDs, offering enhanced versatility.
  • Smart Kiosks — With biometric authentication, citizens have the convenience of accessing 28 digital services such as renewing vehicle registrations, settling parking fines, and recharging their nol cards at 32 distinct smart kiosks that operate 24/7. Payment options encompass cash, credit cards, and NFC digital wallets.
  • Unified Booking — In the coming years, the RTA aims to simplify transportation reservations and ticketing by standardizing regulations across various service providers such as Careem, Udrive, Uber, ekar, and Hala.

All the initiatives above will not only enhance convenience for users but also promote fair competition among service providers, ultimately improving the overall transportation experience in the city.
