Samsung and Google Collaborate to Redefine Smartphone Capabilities in Galaxy S24 Series

By Staff Writer, 18 January 2024

In a major technological collaboration, Samsung (005930.KS) has integrated Google's (GOOGL.O) cutting-edge generative artificial intelligence technology into its newly unveiled Galaxy S24 series smartphones.

The partnership, announced on Wednesday, outlines the deployment of Google's advanced AI models, including Gemini Nano, Gemini Pro, and Imagen 2, in Samsung's flagship S24 series.

Under the terms of the multi-year agreement, the Galaxy S24 series will harness the power of Gemini Nano, Google's highly efficient large-language model, directly integrated into the smartphones.

Additionally, the devices will leverage Gemini Pro and Imagen 2 text-to-image technology through cloud connectivity.

This move places Google in direct competition with Microsoft (MSFT.O), as both tech giants race to embed generative AI into everyday applications and devices, spanning smartphones, personal computers, and productivity software.

The strategic push into AI integration is seen as a means for companies to explore new avenues for monetizing these advanced tools.

Market analysts at Counterpoint Research predict a significant surge in the market share of generative AI smartphones, estimating a doubling from 4% in 2023 to an anticipated 8% in 2024.

Samsung's collaboration with Google positions the tech giant as one of the early adopters of Gemini Ultra, Google's most potent and extensive large-language model.

As a result, Samsung's customers will be among the first to experience AI-powered features, including summarization and classification, integrated into native applications such as Notes, Voice Recorder, and the keyboard.

The Imagen model, part of the collaborative effort, introduces advanced capabilities to the Gallery application of the S24 smartphones.

This enhancement enables users to seamlessly perform complex photo editing tasks.

The Galaxy S24 series, featuring these groundbreaking AI technologies, is set to hit the market at the end of January, offering consumers an innovative and enhanced user experience.
