Peach Payments Acquires Operativa to Boost Growth
South African digital payments service provider Peach Payments has acquired the custom software development firm Operativa, marking its first acquisition since securing a $31 million funding round led by the Apis Growth Fund II last year.
Established in Cape Town in 2012, Peach Payments offers a comprehensive toolkit for businesses to accept, manage, and disburse payments via web and mobile. It stands as the second largest online payment gateway in South Africa and has expanded its reach to Kenya and Mauritius.
The company raised $31 million in a Series A funding round from Apis Partners last year to accelerate its growth across the continent and enhance its product offerings. The acquisition of Operativa is a significant step in this expansion, with the entire Operativa team set to be integrated into Peach Payments. Operativa co-founders Dayne Olivier and Ben Janecke will assume Principal Engineer roles.
Operativa has been collaborating with Peach Payments since 2022, developing and maintaining several of the company's payment systems and solutions. This partnership facilitated Peach Payments' rapid growth, including the integration of additional payment methods like Apple Pay and the onboarding of new merchants and banking partners.
"Integrating Operativa’s specialized skills and developers in-house allows Peach Payments to execute its growth strategy more swiftly and efficiently," said Rahul Jain, CEO and co-founder of Peach Payments.
