Meta Platforms, the parent company of Facebook, unveiled its first prototype of augmented reality glasses, dubbed Orion, at its annual Connect conference on Wednesday. The glasses offer a glimpse into Meta's vision of merging the virtual and real worlds. CEO Mark Zuckerberg showcased the sleek black glasses, describing them as a "time machine" offering a preview of the future.

"This is the physical world with holograms overlaid on it," Zuckerberg explained during his presentation. The Orion glasses, made from magnesium alloy, use custom silicon developed by Meta and support hand-tracking, voice commands, and neural interfaces through wrist-based technology. Meta aims to refine the glasses, making them smaller, more affordable, and consumer-ready in the future.

In addition to the Orion glasses, Meta also revealed new AI chatbot features and the latest Quest mixed-reality headset during the event. The company's stock hit a record high, closing at $568.31, up by 0.9%.
