Tel Aviv Firm LightSolver Raises $13.6 Million for Innovative HPC Solutions
08 August 2024•
LightSolver, a pioneering laser-based computing firm based in Tel Aviv, has secured $13.6 million from the EIC Fund. The investment includes €2.5 million ($2.7 million) in early-stage grants and €10 million ($10.9 million) in equity funding.
The company plans to use this capital to accelerate its growth in the high-performance computing (HPC) sector and advance the commercialization of its innovative platform. Founded in 2020 by Drs. Ruti Ben-Shlomi and Chene Tradonsky, LightSolver aims to revolutionize computing with its laser-based processing unit (LPUTM), which promises to outpace traditional supercomputers and quantum computing.
LightSolver’s technology operates at ambient temperatures, is highly scalable, and requires minimal power by employing all-optical linked lasers, eliminating the need for electronic components. This design allows the device to be as compact as a standard desktop computer.
The platform is poised to enhance workloads in various fields, including computer-assisted engineering (CAE), bioscience computations, and complex optimization problems. CEO and co-founder Dr. Ruti Ben-Shlomi emphasized the environmental benefits of their technology, noting that it consumes less energy and avoids the extreme conditions required by quantum computers.
The investment round also saw contributions from TAL Ventures, Entree Capital, IBI Tech Fund, and Angular Ventures.
