Kofa's Innovative Battery Solutions Bring a Game-Changing Electric Motorcycle

Kofa, a pioneering Ghanaian startup specializing in battery network solutions, has joined forces with TAILG Group, a prominent Chinese electric vehicle brand, to introduce the groundbreaking Jidi electric motorcycle.

This innovative motorcycle is equipped with an ingenious battery swap technology, representing a significant step in advancing electric mobility in Africa.

Innovative Battery Solutions

Kofa's mission is to establish an affordable and customer-driven electricity network powered by portable batteries and renewable energy.

Central to their initiative is the Kofa Swap & Go system, which comprises a distributed network of batteries and swap stations, offering users immediate access to a fully charged battery in mere seconds.

The collaboration with TAILG is aimed at deploying an impressive 200,000 electric vehicles and over 5,000 battery swap stations across Africa by 2030.

The first orders of the innovative battery swap electric motorcycle, known as the Jidi, are expected to arrive in Ghana by the end of 2023.

Leveraging the advantages of Kofa's batteries and battery swap networks, the Jidi is poised to reduce rider costs by up to 30 percent.

At the heart of the Jidi's design is Kofa's extractable battery, which can achieve an "unlimited battery range" by being swapped at any Kofa Swap & Go station.

Over the coming year, Kofa's swap network will experience accelerated deployment in Ghana, with plans to invest in and build swap infrastructure in multiple new countries by 2024.

Erik Nygard, CEO of Kofa Technologies, highlighted the significance of this partnership, stating, "This is a major milestone that will help accelerate EV adoption across Africa and play a major part in reducing urban pollution; motorcycles alone emit over 50 million tonnes of CO2 annually. TailG is the first major EV OEM entering Africa with a ready solution for scale by partnering with Kofa to provide the battery swap & go solution. We are really excited to help enable this."

With ambitious expansion plans and innovative battery solutions technology at its core, the Jidi electric motorcycle is set to make a substantial impact on the continent's transportation landscape.
