Kofa Technologies Ltd., a clean energy firm from Ghana, has partnered with impact investor PASH Global to expand its battery-swapping network across Ghana. This initiative, supported by a £2.35 million (~$3.12 million) investment from Shell Foundation and the UK Government’s Transforming Energy Access (TEA) platform, aims to provide cleaner, portable battery solutions and improve energy access.

In addition, £1.4 million (~$1.9 million) will fund Kofa's efforts in e-bike financing, battery technology research, and operational costs, with a focus on replacing petrol-powered motorcycles with electric alternatives. This will help reduce air and noise pollution in urban areas.

The project was announced on September 17 by Lord Collins of Highbury, the UK's Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Africa, who highlighted the UK's commitment to clean energy and strengthening economic ties with Ghana.

Kofa will manage the battery-swapping network while PASH Global will handle the installation and upkeep of the swap stations, targeting 6,000 batteries and 100 swapping stations nationwide. Plans to integrate solar energy into the stations will make the project even more sustainable.
