iColo Boosts Kenya’s Renewable Energy Grid with New Solar Installations Over 650 kW at Data Centers

28 August 2024•

iColo, a leading African data center and interconnection platform provider, has advanced its sustainability efforts by commissioning over 650 kilowatts (kW) of new solar installations at its Nairobi and Mombasa data centers. This initiative reflects iColo’s dedication to enhancing Kenya’s renewable energy grid.

The majority of the new solar capacity, exceeding 450 kW, has been installed at iColo’s NBO campus, a key connectivity hub hosting over 60 national and global networks. This boost in renewable energy will not only decrease the campus's carbon footprint but also support its future growth.

The remaining 200 kW of solar power has been allocated to iColo’s expanding Miritini Mombasa site, helping to power its operations and reduce dependence on traditional energy sources.

iColo’s investment in renewable energy aligns with its mission to provide sustainable and reliable data center solutions across Africa, leveraging solar power to lower environmental impact while supporting Kenya’s renewable energy objectives.
