HummingbirdEV Plans UAE Manufacturing Facility to Boost E-Mobility in MENA

25 January 2024•

HummingbirdEV, a US-based provider of commercial electric vehicle systems, has unveiled plans to establish a manufacturing facility in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to promote electric mobility across the broader Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.

The upcoming microfactory is poised to facilitate the delivery of e-mobility solutions for an existing e-commerce client. Additionally, it aims to capitalize on the UAE's free trade agreements with Southeast Asia, India, and surrounding MENA markets to expand its customer base further.

In its initial phase, the company will concentrate on meeting the escalating demand in the region for mid-mile and last-mile vehicle applications, with a specific focus on refrigerated trucks.

HummingbirdEV has joined forces with the global investments and advisory firm, IBMC Group, for its expansion into the UAE.

This strategic move by HummingbirdEV aligns with the UAE's ongoing commitment to drive e-mobility as a primary alternative for both commercial and private use.

The country has been actively investing in electric vehicle infrastructure to support this transition, aiming to achieve zero carbon emissions by 2050.

The UAE's dedication to fostering an environment conducive to electric mobility is reflected in the increasing demand for electric vehicles in its market.

According to the Global Electric Mobility Readiness Index published in 2022 by international consultancy firm Arthur D. Little, the UAE's electric vehicle market is projected to experience a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 30% between 2022 and 2028.

HummingbirdEV's expansion comes at a strategic juncture, poised to contribute to and benefit from the flourishing electric mobility landscape in the UAE.
