Grok Goes Public: Musk's xAI Chatbot Now Available to X Premium Subscribers
Elon Musk made an announcement on Tuesday (March 26th) regarding xAI, an artificial intelligence startup, stating that its chatbot named Grok would now be accessible to all premium subscribers of the social media platform X, previously known as Twitter.
The revelation came through a post on X, although Musk didn't divulge further specifics.
Notably, Grok was initially limited to Premium+ subscribers.
With a noticeable shift in advertiser interest away from the microblogging platform, Musk has emphasized the importance of reducing the company's dependence on advertising revenue, focusing instead on enticing subscription plans.
In a recent development, Musk disclosed plans for xAI to make Grok open-source, following a legal dispute with OpenAI over allegations of deviating from its original mission towards a profit-oriented model.
This strategic move is anticipated to grant the public free access to experiment with the underlying code of the technology, positioning xAI in alignment with other tech giants such as Meta and France's Mistral, both of which have embraced open-source AI models.
