The Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation & Digital Economy (FMCIDE) announced a major boost for Nigeria's AI talent pool as Google granted N2.8 billion to Data Science Nigeria to enhance AI education and skills among the country’s youth, particularly those who are under- or unemployed. This initiative is part of Google's broader efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s digital ecosystem.

In October, Google also allocated N100 million to the National Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Robotics (NCAIR) AI Fund. With this latest grant, Google’s total investment in Sub-Saharan Africa’s digital skill initiatives has reached $5.8 million.

Dr. ‘Bosun Tijani, Minister of Communications, Innovation & Digital Economy, praised the partnership, noting that Google’s support reinforces Nigeria’s ambitions in AI. This funding not only accelerates Nigeria's path to a digitally empowered economy but also prepares Nigerians for global opportunities in AI and technology.
