Dangote Cement Plc has committed over $280 million (₦460 billion) to Nigeria’s clean energy sector, aiming to drive the adoption of compressed natural gas (CNG) technology in alignment with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's CNG initiative. This initiative is designed to support Nigeria's low-carbon economy goals and to make energy options more affordable and sustainable.

According to Arvind Pathak, Group Managing Director of Dangote Cement, the investment will fund a full transition of the company’s fleet to CNG trucks, marking a significant step toward Dangote's clean energy targets. The company aims to operate most of its fleet on CNG by mid-2026.

Pathak announced that Dangote Cement has already received an initial batch of 1,500 mono-fuel CNG trucks, with an additional 1,600 trucks expected by year’s end, totaling 3,100 vehicles. To support the transition, a CNG refueling station has been established in Obajana, with another station in development in Ibese.

Aliko Dangote, CEO of Dangote Group, stated that this move aligns with Nigeria's Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) under the Paris Agreement, setting the nation on a path to achieve net-zero emissions by 2060.
