Apple has announced an agreement to acquire Pixelmator, the popular image editing app for Mac and iOS, in a move that could expand Pixelmator’s reach to a wider creative audience. Pixelmator shared the news on its blog, noting that joining Apple will enable the company to have a greater impact on the global creative community.

In a statement, Pixelmator confirmed the acquisition deal, which is currently awaiting regulatory approval. "There will be no material changes to the Pixelmator Pro, Pixelmator for iOS, and Photomator apps at this time," the company added, hinting at future updates to come.

While financial terms were not disclosed, the acquisition reflects Apple’s growing interest in creative software. Pixelmator has established itself as a popular alternative to Adobe Photoshop, offering a comprehensive suite of editing tools for a one-time purchase of $49.99. Its recent AI-powered updates, including background masking features, have made it a favorite among designers and photographers. However, regulatory clearance remains a hurdle, as similar tech acquisitions have faced challenges in recent years.
