Adobe to Introduce a New AI-Powered Video Tool, Firefly Video, to Compete with Industry Giants
Adobe (ADBE.O) is set to launch a new generative AI-powered video creation and editing tool later this year, in a limited release, as part of its efforts to expand its offerings for creative professionals. The tool, named Adobe Firefly Video Model, will debut in beta form and will complement the company’s existing Firefly suite, which includes AI tools for generating images, designs, and vector graphics.
The introduction of Firefly Video will position Adobe in the competitive market of AI-driven video creation, alongside other industry players like OpenAI’s Sora and Stability AI’s Stable Video Diffusion, as well as products from smaller startups.
According to Alexandru Costin, Adobe’s vice president of generative AI, the tool can create five-second video clips based on either text or image prompts. Users will also be able to specify camera angles, panning, motion, and zoom for more customized results. Costin emphasized that the model has been developed to meet the quality expectations of professional videographers, offering better prompt interpretation and guidance than competing AI models.
Adobe confirmed that the AI model is trained using content from the public domain or licensed material, ensuring it doesn’t use any customer data without permission.
