Bengaluru-headquartered Mohalla Tech Pvt. Ltd, which operates vernacular social networking platform ShareChat, has raised Rs. 720.29 crore ($99.23 million at current rates) in a new funding round led by existing investor Shunwei Capital, two people in the know told TechCircle on condition of anonymity.
The company will use the capital to develop its core product offering as it looks to diversify into other categories, one of the persons mentioned above said.
While Shunwei put in Rs 236.54 crore ($32.5 million), Hong Kong-based Morningside
Ventures invested Rs 180.72 crore ($25 million), accounting for the second largest contribution, the company's filings with the Registrar of Companies show.

Shunwei Leads New Funding Round In Social Networking Platform ShareChat

Home-grown vernacular social networking platform ShareChat has raised Series B round of funding from a clutch of investors led by Chinese mobile major Xiaomi. The total amount raised in this round is $18.2 million (Rs 116.31 crore).

Of this total, Xiaomi has directly invested $5.76 million (Rs36.84 crore) and $2.81 million (Rs 18.01 crore) has come from venture fund Shunwei Capital, floated by Xiaomi’s founder Lei Jun.  

The rest of the investment in ShareChat in this round have been put in by SAIF Partners ($4.29 million), Lightspeed Partners ($2.94 million), India Quotient ($2.06 million) and Venture Highway ($264,600). All four are existing investors in the startup.

ShareChat raises $18.2 million in Series B funding round led by Xiaomi

Bengaluru-based social platform ShareChat, has closed a $4 Mn Series A round of funding, led by Lightspeed India Partners. Existing investors, SAIF Partners and India Quotient along with Venture Highway (through VH Capital).

Used car buying platform Cars24 has raised a $50 million fresh round from Sequoia Capital and its early backers including Cayman Islands-based Kingsway FCI Fund and Toronto-headquartered KCK Global Limited.

Importantly, Sequoia also has CarDekho in its portfolio. The venture capital firm has been investing in the Jaipur-based company since 2013. It led Series A and participated in series B round of the auto classifieds.

Citing sources, an ET report has estimated Cars24 valuation up to $250 million in the current financing round. With this fresh capital infusion, the company has amassed $100 million total risk capital from multiple investors such as Apoletto Asia, Venture Highway, 500 Startups III and Mauritius-based Regent Street Partners amongst several others.

Entrackr has been the first ever platform to reveal Cars24 previous funding rounds. Previously, it had secured $49.5 million capital from the aforementioned investor including Cyprus-based Vendebita Trading Ltd. and Philipp Freise (KKR Private Equity).

Meesho said on Monday it has raised $300 million in a new financing round led by SoftBank Vision Fund 2 as the Indian social commerce startup works to become the “single ecosystem that will enable all small businesses to succeed online.”

The new round — a Series E — gives the five-year-old startup a valuation of $2.1 billion, up from about $600 million-$700 million in the 2019 Series D investment. The Indian startup, which has raised about $490 million to date, said existing investors Facebook, Prosus Ventures, Shunwei Capital, Venture Highway and Knollwood Investment also participated in the new round.

Indian social commerce Meesho valued at $2.1 billion in new $300 million fundraise

Meesho, a Bangalore-based social commerce startup, has raised $125 million in a new financing round to expand its business in the country and change the way millions shop online.

The Series D round was led by Naspers, with existing investors SAIF, Sequoia, Shunwei Capital, RPS and Venture Highway participating as well. Facebook also participated in the round, as did Arun Sarin, former CEO of Vodafone Group. The four-year-old startup has raised $190 million to date.

India’s Meesho raises $125M to expand its social commerce business

Meesho, a Bangalore-based social commerce startup, has closed a $50 million investment to grow its business in its Indian homeland ahead of future international expansion.

This Series C round means that Meesho, which graduated Y Combinator in 2016, has now raised three funding rounds in the past year. Its $3.4 million Series A came in October 2017 with an $11.5 million Series B closing in June of this year. That’s quite the rollercoaster and over the last year, Meesho has seen its top line revenue grow by over 100X so co-founder and CEO Vidit Aatrey told TechCrunch in an interview.

This time around, the $50 million raise includes new investors Shunwei Capital from China, DST Partners and RPS Ventures, as well as returning backers Sequoia India, SAIF Partners, Venture Highway and Y Combinator.

Y Combinator alum Meesho, one of several “social selling” startups gaining speed in India, will add more features to its e-commerce platform after closing a $11.5 million Series B led by Sequoia India. Existing investors SAIF Partners, Y Combinator and Venture Highway also returned for the round, which brings the Bangalore-based startup’s total funding so far to $15 million. Its last round of funding, a $3.4 million Series A, was announced last October.

“Social selling” startup Meesho lands $11.5M Series B led by Sequoia India

While most of the attention paid to India’s e-commerce boom focuses on big players like Flipkart, there’s another fast-growing sector: people, mostly women, who resell items on social media. Several startups now exist to serve the so-called “housewife reseller” market. One of them, Y Combinator alum Meesho, announced today that it has raised a $3.4 million Series A led by SAIF Partners.

Previous backers Venture Highway, Y Combinator and several angel investors also returned for the round, which brings Meesho’s total funding to $3.7 million so far. The Bangalore-based startup plans to hire more people for its tech and business operations teams and launch new product categories.
