Cairo-based furniture marketplace Homzmart has raised $1.3 million in a seed round, the startup told MENAbytes today. The investment which according to our data is one of the largest seed round raised by an Egyptian startup came from China’s MSA Capital, Oman Technology Fund (OTF), and Choueiri Group’s investment arm Equitrust. 500 Startups and some other strategic investors also joined the round.

Felix, an insurance e-commerce and automation platform for insurance brokers, has raised $800K in a Seed funding round led by a strategic Saudi Arabian investor, with participation from the Oman Technology Fund. The funds will be used for product development and regional expansion to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. This follows a previous $120K Pre-Seed round raised in January 2018. The funding will help Felix continue its digital transformation efforts in the insurance sector.

Iliad Partners announced today that it has participated in the $23 million Series A funding round of TruKKer, which was led by Saudi Technology Ventures (STV). Other participating investors included International Finance Corporation (IFC), Riyad Taqnia Fund (RTF), Oman Technology Fund (OTF), Shorooq Ventures, Endeavor Catalyst, Alturki Holding, and MEVP.

The Company will use the funding to grow the team, enhance the customer experience, and strengthen its operating infrastructure across the road freight network in the region. TruKKer will continue its aggressive growth in Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and the rest of the GCC and is also in the process of going live in Egypt and other countries in the region.

Egyptian Bus Booking Startup Swvl Raises Tens Of Millions In Series-B Funding Round

Swvl, a transport booking platform based in the UAE, is merging with Queen's Gambit Growth Capital at a $1.5 billion valuation. The merger involves a $100 million private investment in public equity deal with investors including Zain, Agility, and Luxor Capital Group. Swvl's shareholders will retain 65% of the combined business. Prior to this, Swvl had raised over $80 million, with a $30 million Series B round in November 2018 led by Beco Capital, DiGame, and Silicon Badia.

Swvl turns to reverse merger option

Swvl raised $42 million in a Series C funding round co-led by Vostok Ventures and BECO Capital, with participation from MSA, Endeavor Catalyst, OTF Jasoor Ventures, Sawari Ventures, Arzan VC, Blustone, Autotech, and Michael Lahyani. The company plans to focus its expansion in Africa, targeting Lagos, Nigeria, and aims to enter two or three more African cities by the end of the year.
