Saudi-based Retail enablement company, Zid has successfully raised $50 million (~188 million SAR) in a Series B funding led by IMPACT46 with participation from new investors: Aramco venture capital arm (Waed Ventures) and Endeavour Catalyst. Previous investors: Global Ventures, Elm Company, Arzan and MSA also participated. 

This is the third round of investment Zid has received since the business was founded in 2017, and follows a Series A investment round of $7 million in March 2021. 

The proceeds will be used by Zid to expand into new markets in Saudi Arabia and in the region, conquer new retail verticals, plus digitise and automate more innovative solutions to modernise the retail sector.

Zid has continued its growth in both acquiring new merchants and in transactions. Milestones include doubling its revenues from subscriptions and transactions and a 50% increase in orders made via Zid’s merchants by over 7 million lifetime consumers. Zid’s merchant network now reaches over 7,500 stores across 19 different categories, from small to large merchants in the retail sector.

Zid started by enabling retailers to sell and grow their own online channels. Now, Zid is expanding into a new mission - “modernize the retail sector”. The company’s goal is to up game the retail sector by offering and enabling business owners and retailers with tools and products that will improve the efficiency of their operations and grow their bottom line. 

The company rolled out products and solutions to enable Zid retailers in shipping (ZidShip) and payment (ZidPay), achieving significant growth and adoption of their products. Zid's intention is to expand the offering of these products to cover: financing retailers and cross-border shipping.

Zid raises $50 million Series B round led by IMPACT46

Saudi Arabia-based e-commerce enablement platform Zid, has raised $7 million (SAR 26 million) in a Series A funding round, led by Global Ventures alongside existing investors Elm and Arzan VC.

Founded in 2017, Zid helps retailers build their own online stores and then integrates them with the supply chain and third-party logistics companies.

Over the past two years, Zid’s gross merchandise volume (GMV) has grown 10x. Its merchant network now boasts more than5,300 stores across 14 different categories.

“Zid has transformed from a single product to a company providing a rich-toolbox and variety solutions helping our customers and improving the e-commerce ecosystem. This achievement is due to the hard work and dedication of our stellar team, capable of achieving any goal,” said Sultan AlAsmi, co-founder and CEO of Zid.

Zid will use the new funds to grow its footprint, expand to other retail verticals, attract talent, and automate more tools to improve the e-commerce experience for its customers.

Zid raises $7 million Series A funding

Maalexi, the UAE-based dynamic risk management platform for SME agri-businesses, announces the completion of a $3 million pre-Series A fund raise.

The funding round was led exclusively by Global Ventures, MENA’s leading venture capital firm, which joins existing venture capital investors Rockstart (Amsterdam) and Ankurit Capital (New Delhi).

The proceeds will be deployed by Maalexi for: (i) tech development—to enhance its full-stack platform to help SME agri-buyers procure faster, cheaper, and safer from globally placed SME sellers; and (ii) drive customer acquisition—specifically more buyers in the UAE and Saudi Arabia and to add sellers from 50+ origin countries. 

Maalexi’s platform helps the millions of small agribusinesses active in the $3 trillion global, cross-border food trading market. Despite the market growing at a 6% CAGR in the last five years, such businesses often suffer from an inability to manage trade risks and get access to finance.

These past few years have seen the emergence of buy now, pay later services worldwide, with leading players raising buttloads of cash to serve an insatiable young adult population who don’t fancy credit cards or paying interest.

In what seems to be a consolidation of some sorts, fintech juggernaut Square acquired Australian buy now, pay later giant Afterpay in a mouthwatering $29 billion deal this week.

The deal is a sign of things to come for established markets like Europe and the U.S. and promising markets witnessing a proliferation of these services. For instance, in the Middle East, not less than ten startups offering BNPL services have launched within the past three years.

Tabby is one such service and clearly the most known in the region. Today, it is announcing that it has raised a $50 million Series B, valuing the company at $300 million.

Global Founders Capital and STV led the funding round, with participation from Delivery Hero and CCVA. Existing investors, including Arbor Ventures, Mubadala Investment Capital, Raed Ventures, Global Ventures, MSA Capital, VentureSouq, Outliers VC, JIMCO, and HOF, also participated.

UAE-founded Buy Now Pay Later (BNPL) provider tabby  has raised Series A financing round of $23 million in debt and equity led by Arbor Ventures and Mubadala Capital, with participation from STV, Raed Ventures, Global Founders Capital, JIMCO, Global Ventures, Venture Souq, Outliers VC, MSA Capital, HOF and AB Accelerator. This funding will fuel the company’s next stage of growth, helping tabby scale its product and engineering capabilities in addition to its lending capacity, further benefiting its merchant partners and consumers.
