Egyptian logistics startup Flextock has raised a $3.25 million pre-seed funding round, which is the largest ever for a Middle Eastern tech startup. The funding round included investors such as Foundation Ventures, MSA Capital, CRE Venture Capital, Alter Global, Jameel Investment Management Company (JIMCO), B&Y Venture Partners, Access Bridge Ventures, Y Combinator, Flexport, and a Sequoia Capital scout. The funds will be used to expand Flextock's presence in the Egyptian market, expand regionally, invest in technology, and build a strong team.

Egyptian logistics platform Flextock closes $3.25m pre-seed funding round

Trella, a Cairo-based digital freight marketplace in the Middle East, North Africa and Pakistan (Menap), has closed a successful $42 million funding round, comprising $30 million new equity and $12 million debt facilities.

The equity element was led by Maersk Growth and Raed Ventures. Other participating investors include Algebra Ventures, Vision Ventures, Next Billion Ventures, Venture Souq, Foundation Ventures and Flexport. The debt facilities are being provided by Lendable - the next generation lending platform and other local financial institutions.

Founded in 2018, Trella is a technology platform ‘reinventing trucking’ across emerging markets, and has a current market presence in three countries; its home market - Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan. Its four co-founders include Omar Hagrass, Ali El Atrash, Pierre Saad and Muhammad El Garem.

Trella, a technology platform reinventing trucking in emerging markets, has raised Series A funding led by Maersk Growth and Raed Ventures. Trella connects shippers directly to carriers, improving efficiency and reducing costs, with over 350 shipper partners and 15,000 carrier partners.

Egypt’s E-Commerce Startup Kenzz Raises $3.5 Million Seed Round

Cairo-based B2B e-commerce startup Capiter has raised $33 million Series A, co-led by Quona Capital and MSA Capital alongside additional investors Savola, Shorooq Partners, Foundation Ventures, Accion Venture Lab, and Derayah Ventures.
Founded in July 2020 by brothers Mahmoud Nouh (former COO and co-founder of SWVL) and Ahmed Nouh, Capiter brings together manufacturers, brands, wholesalers and retailers on one platform with access to financial services.

The acquired funding will help Capiter expand its service across Egypt and the Middle East region within 2022.

B2B e-commerce Capiter raises $33 million Series A

Egypt-based venture capital firm (VC) Foundation Ventures has launched an early-stage fund to back Egyptian startups, offering investments ranging from pre-seed to Series A.

The VC has so far invested in four startups companies; two in fintech (NowPay and Capiter), one in entertainment tech (Minly), and one in logistics currently operating in stealth mode.

Foundation Ventures is managed by Mazen Nadim, Omar Barakat, and Ziyad Hamdy, in partnership with US-based VC firm HOF Capital, and Egypt-based private equity firm BPE Partners. The fund is backed by some of the largest family offices and business leaders from Egypt and the Middle East and North Africa (Mena) region.  

Being part of the FV’s network, FV will help its portfolio companies scale up quickly by enabling them to access and utilise the resources of its limited partners and enterprise partners, expand their reach and product offering, access top industry experts and potential investors.

Foundations Ventures launches early-stage fund, invests in 4 startups

NowPay, a Cairo-based FinTech startup focused on financial wellness for employees, has raised $2.1 million in a Seed funding round. The investment was led by Foundation Ventures and Endure Capital, with participation from investors in the US, UAE, China, and Egypt, including BECO Capital, 500 Startups, Plug and Play, 4dx Ventures, MSA Capital, EFG-EV Fintech, and Ebtikar. The funds will be used to enhance the platform's capabilities, expand the team, and grow its presence in the MENA region and beyond.

NowPay Raises $2.1 Million Seed Investment

NowPay, a Cairo-based financial wellness platform, has joined Y Combinator's Winter 2021 batch and raised funds in a Pre-Series A round. The investors include Global Ventures, Beco Capital, Endure Capital, Foundation Ventures, and Abderahman ElSewedy. The size of the deal was not disclosed. NowPay, founded by Mostafa Ashour and Ahmed Sabry, allows employees to request salary advances through its app. The company plans to expand into other regional markets.
