South African startup Open Access Energy (OAE), which is using AI to enable digital infrastructure for electricity trading, has closed a US$1.8 million seed funding round to accelerate product development and customer growth as the company scales to meet rising demand for flexible, decentralised energy infrastructure. Disrupt Africa reported in August of last year the company had secured a US$750,000 investment from Factor E Ventures, marking the initial tranche of a US$1.5 million seed round. That round has now closed at an oversubscribed US$1.8 million, with participation from E3 Capital and Equator VC, as well as Factor E Ventures.

SA’s Open Access Energy raises $1.8m seed funding round

InfraCo Africa, a subsidiary of the Private Infrastructure Development Group (PIDG), has announced a landmark agreement with Savant Group Ltd, pledging a substantial $12 million investment to scale up SunCulture’s solar irrigation solutions throughout sub-Saharan Africa. This strategic equity investment, facilitated through InfraCo Africa’s specialized investment arm, is part of a thriving Series B fundraising effort totaling $27.5 million.

In a landmark move to revolutionize Africa’s energy sector, SteamaCo, a UK-based leader in energy revenue management, has merged with Shyft Power Solutions, a Nigerian innovator in digital energy solutions that gained popularity recently with its community-metering solutions. The merger occurs alongside a new funding round led by Equator VC and with participation from Praetura Ventures and KawiSafi Ventures, who collectively bring together decades of experience investing in African and climate-tech ventures.
