Flipkart said on Monday it has raised $3.6 billion at a post-money valuation of $37.6 billion in what is widely believed to be the pre-IPO round for the Indian e-commerce conglomerate as it works to list in the public markets as soon as early next year.

The new round of funding — by far the largest for any Indian startup — was led by GIC, Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPP Investments), SoftBank Vision Fund 2 and Walmart, along with investments from sovereign funds DisruptAD, Qatar Investment Authority, Khazanah Nasional Berhad, Tencent, Willoughby Capital, Antara Capital, Franklin Templeton and Tiger Global.

The Monday investment marks the return of SoftBank as a shareholder of Flipkart. SoftBank, which had taken the exit from the startup when the Bangalore-based firm sold majority stakes to Walmart in 2018 at a valuation of $22 billion, has reinvested about $500 million in the new round.

“As we serve our consumers, we will focus on accelerating growth for millions of small and medium Indian businesses, including kiranas. We will continue to invest in new categories and leverage made-in-India technology to transform consumer experiences and develop a world-class supply chain.”

As part of the new fundraise, Flipkart is also giving its employees the option to sell their stock options worth $80.5 million, Krishnamurthy told them on Monday.

Flipkart had originally hit the market to raise money early this year and was initially looking to raise just about $1 billion, TechCrunch first reported.

Flipkart valued at $37.6 billion in new $3.6 billion fundraise

Abu Dhabi: Right Farm, a disruptive UAE-based B2B digital platform that sources fresh produce from local and international farms for the food and retail sector, today announced it has raised USD 2.8 million in its seed funding round.

DisruptAD, ADQ’s venture platform, and Enhance Ventures, the venture studio for the Middle East, North Africa, Pakistan, Turkey (MENAPT) region, led the seed equity funding round, investing USD 2.8 million (AED 10.2 million) in the AgTech company. The raised funds will be used to support Right Farm’s rapid technology development and aggressive growth plans in the region.

UAE-based cloud kitchen operator Kitopi, raised an additional $300 million in its Series C round late last year, extending the round's size to $715 million, Bloomberg reported.  
The recent fundraise brings the unicorn's post-investment valuation to $1.55 billion, as well as pushes the total funding raised by startups across the Middle East and North Africa region (Mena) to over $3 billion in 2021.
The startup's Series C round was led by SoftBank Vision Fund 2 and saw participation from Chimera, DisruptAD, B. Riley, Dogus Group, Next Play Capital and Nordstar. The extension is part of Kitopi's new growth strategy targeting investments in brick and mortar restaurants, as consumers head back to indoor dining.

Kitopi raises $300 million Series C round extension

Dubai, UAE, July 1st, 2021 - Kitopi, the world’s leading managed cloud kitchen platform, announced today the completion of its $415 million, Series C funding round. 

The round was led by Softbank Vision Fund 2, with participation from Chimera, DisruptAD, B. Riley, Dogus Group, Next Play Capital and Nordstar.
