Connect Money, an Egyptian fintech, has raised $8 million in seed funding to expand its Banking-as-a-Service platform, which enables non-bank businesses to offer embedded finance services such as white-label debit and credit cards. The funding round was co-led by DisrupTech Ventures, Algebra Ventures, and Lorax Capital Partners, with participation from One Stop Capital and MDP. The startup plans to grow within and outside Egypt, targeting markets like Morocco and Kenya.

Sylndr, a used cars retailer founded by Omar El Defrawy and Amr Mazen, has raised a Pre-Seed funding round to enhance its operational capabilities, technology infrastructure, and brand awareness. The company plans to more than double its team size by the end of the year. Investors include RAED Ventures and Algebra Ventures, who are excited about the potential to disrupt the fragmented secondary car market in Egypt and beyond.

Cairo-based used-car platform Sylndr has raised $15.7 million in a Series A equity round, led by DPI Venture Capital via the Nclude Fund, with participation from Algebra Ventures, Nuwa Capital, Raed Ventures, Uncovered Fund, Beltone Venture Capital, and Camel Ventures.
Founded in 2021 by Omar El Defrawy, Sylndr allows customers to buy and sell their cars as well as find financing solutions. 
The funding will be used to accelerate Sylndr’s expansion across Egypt, enhance its pricing intelligence, inventory, and fintech capabilities, and strengthen partnerships with dealers, lenders, and service providers.
In November last year, Sylndr secured a $7.46 million capital facility tailored specifically to the unique dynamics of Sylndr’s business model.

Sylndr closes $15.7 million Series A to drive automotive innovation in Egypt

Trella, a Cairo-based digital freight marketplace in the Middle East, North Africa and Pakistan (Menap), has closed a successful $42 million funding round, comprising $30 million new equity and $12 million debt facilities.

The equity element was led by Maersk Growth and Raed Ventures. Other participating investors include Algebra Ventures, Vision Ventures, Next Billion Ventures, Venture Souq, Foundation Ventures and Flexport. The debt facilities are being provided by Lendable - the next generation lending platform and other local financial institutions.

Founded in 2018, Trella is a technology platform ‘reinventing trucking’ across emerging markets, and has a current market presence in three countries; its home market - Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan. Its four co-founders include Omar Hagrass, Ali El Atrash, Pierre Saad and Muhammad El Garem.

Trella, a b2b technology platform and trucking marketplace that connects shippers with carriers in the highly fragmented freight industry has raised $600k+ in a pre-seed funding round led by Algebra Ventures, with participation from strategic investors, global VCs, and notable angel investors including Esther Dyson and Jambu Palaniappan.

Founded in 2018 by Omar Hagrass and Pierre Saad, Trella empowers drivers and reduces costs for shippers by improving load utilisation and efficiency, offering transparent pricing schedules, and enabling shipment tracking in real-time. The platform is addressing an enormous pain-point in a deeply fragmented industry plagued by asset under-utilisation and a lack of transparency, consistency, and reliability.

Trella’s CEO, Hagrass, is no stranger to the transport-tech space in the region, having served as Regional Manager, EMEA Launch and Expansion at Uber. Saad, CTO, was previously Software Architect & Technical Lead at Vezeeta. They are joined by Muhammad El Garem (previously Business Development Manager at OLX) as Head of Operations.

‘Building on the fantastic success of ride-hailing startups, we built a similar solution for the freight industry in the region to improve efficiency throughout the supply chain,’ says Hagrass. ‘The interest in our solution has been overwhelming, both from businesses who want to use our technology, and from truckers who are getting significantly more value and more consistent flow of business through our platform. We’re optimising truckers’ routes so they’re no longer driving empty.’

The platform seeks to transform the fragmented agricultural sector in Egypt by turning farmers into contract-farmers to meet consumer demand.

Mozare3, Egypt's first agri-fintech platform, raised USD 1.1 million in its pre-seed round and an additional USD 2 million in a second round of financing. The company's investors include Algebra Ventures, EFG EV, and Disruptech Ventures, along with six angel investors. Mozare3 plans to expand its operations to five more governorates by the end of the year and aims to serve 100,000 farmers by 2023. The company is finalizing its Series A funding round and plans to expand into Morocco and Sudan in the future.

Filkhedma, an Egyptian home services marketplace, closed its second investment round led by Algebra Ventures and Glint Consulting. The undisclosed investment will be used to attract more talent in operations, development, and marketing, and to grow its user base. Filkhedma offers services like plumbing, carpentry, and air conditioning, and has a repeat order rate exceeding 75%.
