With many consumers making the switch to online shopping in the last year due to COVID-19 and largely staying active on those platforms even after physical shops and the freedom to move about them have been restored, companies that are enabling those services are continuing to see a lot of business and attention. In the latest development, Bringg, which has built software to help retailers with last-mile logistics — specifically to manage, and in some cases even tap, people fulfilling deliveries — has raised $100 million in a Series E round of funding.

The money is coming about a year after its last round — a $30 million Series D — and Bringg has confirmed that the funding values the company at $1 billion — representing a hike of about 4x on its previous valuation. Part of the reason for that has been the company’s strong growth of 180% in new customers over the last year, a high watermark for delivery services, given the pandemic.

Insight Partners is leading this round, and Salesforce Ventures, Viola Growth, Next 47, Pereg Ventures, Harlap, GLP and Cambridge Capital — all previous backers — are also investing.

Guy Bloch, Bringg’s CEO, said in an interview that the funding will be used both to continue growing Bringg’s customer base, but also the company’s capabilities, and also likely for acquisitions to consolidate some of the links that go into the logistics and fulfillment chain.

Bringg has to date focused on the last mile — a critical area for retailers, commonly accounting for 30-40% of the total cost of delivering an item — but Bloch believes there are other parts of the system that it could tackle alongside that.

“The aim is to perfect the customer experience,” he said of the company’s strategy. “It’s not just the last mile but the middle mile. We have so many examples of that.” It’s also building out more options for its customers, including wider flexibility around delivery in-store, “greener” deliveries bundling several orders in one area and more.

The company counts a number of huge companies among its list of current customers. They include Walmart, Albertsons, Co-Op in the U.K., Coca-Cola and Panera.

Bringg nabs $100M at a $1B valuation for a last-mile delivery platform for retailers

Over the last several years, delivery services have become a key component of how retailers, or anyone selling or distributing products and services, do business. Now, with a global health pandemic in full swing keeping people indoors (and away from physical storefronts), delivery has become an essential must-have if you want your business to stay alive. Today, a startup called Bringg, which helps companies build and run delivery operations, is announcing a growth round of $30 million to meet expanding demand for its services.

Tel Aviv-based Bringg already counts giants like Walmart, McDonald’s and Coke among its customers, and most recently introduced a last-mile delivery platform called BringgNow aimed at small and medium businesses to mobilise and manage their own and third-party fleets of delivery people.

The funding, a Series D, is being led by Viola Growth, with Next47, Salesforce, OG Tech Ventures and GLP (all previous investors) also participating.

It brings the total raised to around $83 million, and while Bringg is not disclosing its valuation, for context, PitchBook placed its last valuation ($25 million Series C in January 2019) at $214.7 million. Its revenues have been on the rise over the last year and Guy Bloch, the CEO, said in an interview that it’s definitely an up round.

“The company is growing very fast, and closing a round in ‘corona times’ says a lot,” he said.

Indeed, Bringg’s funding is coming at a key time for the delivery and logistics sector overall.

Delivery services, and businesses based around offering them, have been on an expansion tear over the last several years fueled by the rise of the on-demand economy. But the past several weeks — where consumers have been staying at home to slow the spread of the coronavirus pandemic, staying away from going outside; and businesses have been severely curtailing operations to limit people congregating in enclosed physical spaces — have turned all growth modeling on its head.

Bringg nabs $30M to expand its delivery logistics platform used by Walmart and others

To compete in a world of on-demand everything right to your door led by the likes of Amazon and Uber, traditional physical retailers and those working with them have been looking for an edge by providing efficient, tech-fuelled delivery services of their own.

Now, a startup that has built a platform to enable last-mile logistics and other delivery features for these businesses has announced a round of funding to fuel its growth. Bringg, which works with the likes of Walmart and McDonalds, as well third-party delivery businesses like DoorDash, to optimise and manage logistics and other aspects of the delivery process, has raised $25 million to expand its business.

A typical example of what Bringg provides to its retail customers is the Spark delivery operation that Walmart launched late last year: it gives the company the ability to optimize driver schedules, automatically dispatch orders, allow drivers to communicate their availability and in turn communicate to drivers by way of smart alerts to make sure deliveries are picked up, queued and delivered on time.  Other services that Bringg can offer to customers include helping them run click-and-collect schemes, manage “crowdsourced” fleets, and returns.

Amazon has set the bar high when it comes to setting customer expectations by providing a service that can deliver anything you want in a faster time than it would take for you to go out and buy it. Across various markets it sells food, or clothing, books, streamed films and thousands of other products this way, by way of its Prime subscription service.

A number of startups have emerged to help businesses that are not Amazon and Uber better compete against them and that proposition.

They include companies like FiveStars to help build loyalty programs; Deliverr (yes, it has chosen to follow the same naming convention…) to help with fulfilment and distribution; OrderGroove to build tools to encourage repeat buying; Deliv to provide businesses with a network of people to run same-day deliveries; and Tookan, which directly competes with Bringg for delivery logistics management.

And there are more in existence and likely coming down the pike, since every company both worries on Amazon encroaching on their business, but also, more simply, will try to provide what their customers want.

Bringg, a delivery logistics platform used by Walmart, McD’s and more, raises $25M

Delivery logistics platform Bringg announced today it has raised another $12 million in Series B funding, bringing the total round to $22 million. The round, which follows the initial Series B from last spring includes new, strategic investment from automotive leader Dr. Shmuel Harlap, shipping and real estate magnate Eyal Ofer, and Salesforce Ventures.

Previously, Bringg had raised $10 million in Series B funding led by Aleph VC, with Coca-Cola and prior investor Pereg Ventures also participating.

The Chicago and Tel Aviv-based startup was founded in 2013 Raanan Cohen, the former founder and CEO of MobileMax; and Lior Sion, previously the CTO of Gett and Clarizen.com. The goal was to offer retailers and other businesses an Amazon- or Uber-like level of visibility into their own delivery operations by offering a wide set of features like the ability to track a driver’s progress on a map, delivery notifications, driver-to-customer communications, star ratings and more.

These sorts of tools are needed in several industries beyond retail or food delivery. Today, Bringg counts a number of customers across retail, e-commerce and food, but also services and logistics providers in over 50 countries. While the company can’t disclose all its customers, it is being used by some well-known brands, including strategic investor Coca-Cola, along with Kimberly Clark, Panera Bread, Cdiscount and Hilti.

Coca-Cola, for example, has been using Bringg to handle a variety of needs, ranging from out-of-stock situations to equipment repair operations across parts of Europe, Asia and Latin America. It’s also developing a direct-to-consumer service on Bringg that hasn’t yet launched.

Panera Bread, meanwhile, used Bringg’s platform to launch its nationwide delivery service, ahead of its $7.5 billion acquisition by JAB.

Delivery logistics platform Bringg raises $12M from strategic investors, including Salesforce Ventures

Bringg, a startup taking advantage of the shift toward faster, more transparent on-demand delivery, has raised an additional $10 million in Series B funding, the company announced this morning. The funding was led by Aleph VC, and includes participation from Coca-Cola and prior investor Pereg Ventures.

Founded in 2013, Chicago-headquartered Bringg was started by Raanan Cohen, the former founder and CEO of MobileMax; and Lior Sion, previously the CTO of Gett and Clarizen.com. The idea was to provide businesses an easier way to offer an Amazon- or Uber-like level of visibility into their own delivery operations, including consumer-facing features like delivery notifications, the ability to track a driver on a map, driver-to-customer communications, star ratings and more.

For businesses using Bringg’s solution, they’re able to optimize and prioritize their routes and deliveries more efficiently, in real time — something that allows them to better compete with the likes of Amazon, explains Sion.

“Amazon and Uber have pushed the customer expectations to levels we’ve never seen before,” says Sion. “For consumers, it’s now very weird if we order something and it takes a week to come, and we don’t know exactly when it’s coming. The experience is very uncomfortable.”

Delivery management platform Bringg raises $10 million to help any business take on Amazon

Since he was very young, Bar Mor knew that he would inevitably do something with real estate. His family was involved in all types of real estate projects, from ground-up construction to managing residential, commercial and retail properties.

But unlike his parents, Mor also had a passion for technology. His interest in tech was reinforced when he became a commander in Unit 8200, the elite cyber intelligence division of the Israeli Defense Forces known for minting tech entrepreneurs.  

After leaving the army, he decided to combine his two passions: Mor noticed that many real estate investors do not have a dedicated system for keeping track of various back-office processes such as managing cash collected from rent, calculating and distributing proceeds to their LPs and many other administrative functions.

“We’ve seen companies struggling with managing all of these things using a lot of spreadsheets, emails and [other] disjointed systems that don’t interact with each other,” Mor said.

That realization led him, together with Unit 8200 friends Lior Dolinski and Noam Kahan, to found Agora, a software company that manages data, automates reporting, streamlines fundraising processes and provides bookkeeping and tax services for real estate investment firms of various sizes. 

Mor said that when he was initially fundraising, he told investors he was building Carta for real estate. It’s easy to see the comparison: Carta manages cap tables for startups and VCs, along with other administrative functions. Since real estate investing is similarly data-intensive, investors need tools that automate manual work and calculate yields. 

Agora has tripled its revenue every year since it launched five years ago. Thanks to its strong growth, the company announced on Thursday that it has raised a $34 million Series B from Israel-based growth fund Qumra Capital, along with returning investors Insight Partners and Aleph. The funding brought Agora’s total funding to $63 million.
