Investor interest in African fintech continues to grab headlines with large fundraises. Today, Africa’s largest digital payments network MFS Africa joins the fray.

The company confirmed to TechCrunch that it has raised $100 million in Series C financing — split between $70 million equity and $30 million debt.
Private equity fund AfricInvest FIVE co-led the Series C round with existing investors Goodwell Investments and LUN Partners Group.
New investors CommerzVentures, Allan Gray Ventures, Endeavor Catalyst and Endeavor Harvest also joined the round, while ShoreCap III returned as an existing investor with other funds.

The financing follows a series of acquisitions and investments in African fintechs, as the network continues to expand its hold across the continent.
PE investor AfricInvest FIVE is a new investor in MFS Africa, and co-led the round alongside existing investors Goodwell Investments and LUN Partners Group. CommerzVentures, Allan Gray Ventures, Endeavor Catalyst and Endeavor Harvest also joined the round as new investors, while ShoreCap III returned as an existing investor with other funds. Providers of debt financing included Lendable and Norsad.

MFS Africa bolsters expansion with $100m fundraise

Pan-African digital payments network MFS Africa has raised $100 million in equity and debt, additional funding that takes its Series C round to $200 million. African investment manager Admaius Capital Partners led the new round.

Investors from its first Series C round like AfricInvest FIVE and CommerzVentures doubled down while the fintech also received capital from new investors: Vitruvian Partners and AXA Investment Managers. Debt financing came from Stanbic IBTC Bank, a Lagos-based bank, and Symbiotic.

MFS Africa raises additional equity and debt capital to take its Series C to $200M

MFS Africa, the largest digital payments network in Africa, has raised an additional $100m in debt and equity for its Series C, just six months after its initial close.
Investments in the fresh capital injection came from Admaius Capital Partners – the lead backer – Vitruvian Partners, AXA IM Alts, AfricInvest FIVE and CommerzVentures.
As for the debt financing, it was supplied by Stanbic IBTC Bank and Symbiotic, among others.
With the round close, MFS Africa plans to expand across Africa, its integration into the global digital payment ecosystem and grow BAXI Network, one of its recent acquisitions.
The FinTech company is also looking to expand into Asia through a joint venture with LUN Partners.
MFS Africa previously raised $100m for its Series C in November 2021. The round was co-led by AfricInvest FIVE, Goodwell Investments and LUN Partners Group.

Nigerian Mobility Fintech Moove Raises $105M in Series A2

Moove, an African mobility fintech that offers vehicle financing to ride-hailing and delivery app drivers, has raised $100 million in a funding round as it plots expansion into new markets.
Moove did not say who is leading the round, but sources close to the deal confirmed to TechCrunch that Uber led the Series B round, making it the company’s first investment in the African continent. Update: After we published this article, Moove confirmed Uber led the investment in a LinkedIn post.
The round also includes sovereign wealth fund Mubadala and several other investors, pushing Moove’s post-money valuation to $750 million. This is up from the $550 million secured last August in a Mubadala-led equity and debt round. The news confirms a Bloomberg report from last month. Dubai-based The Latest Ventures, AfricInvest, Palm Drive Capital, Triatlum Advisors, and Future Africa also participated in the funding round.
The company has raised $250 million in equity (and $210 million in debt) to date.

Uber leads $100M investment in African mobility fintech Moove as valuation hits $750M

Nigeria-founded mobility fintech company Moove, which democratises access to vehicle ownership for mobility entrepreneurs, has raised US$100 million in a Series B funding round that takes total raised capital to over US$460 million and values the company at US$750 million. The company has been a prolific fundraiser, and its latest round takes total secured capital to over US$460 million, with more than US$250 million in equity and over US$210 million in debt. Its US$100 million Series B includes new investment from Uber and participation from existing investors including Mubadala. The round also values Moove at US$750 million.

PalmPay, an Africa-focused payments startup, raised a $100 million Series A funding round in August 2021. The round was led by Chinese investors including Chuangshi Capital, Yunshi Equity Investment Management, Trust Capital, Chengyu Capital, and AfricInvest. PalmPay plans to expand its financial services offerings, which include online payment, offline POS-acquiring services, and digital marketing services. The company claims to have 5 million users.

South African startup Aerobotics has closed its Series B funding round at ZAR250 million (US$16.5 million), with participation from Naspers, FMO, and Cathay AfricInvest Innovation. The funds will be used for international expansion and technological development.

SA aerial imaging startup Aerobotics expands funding round to $16.5m

Aerobotics, a South African startup focused on AI-for-agriculture, raised $17 million in a Series B funding round led by Naspers Foundry, which invested $5.6 million. Other participants included Cathay AfricInvest Innovation, FMO: Entrepreneurial Development Bank, and Platform Investment Partners. The funds will be used to further develop technology and product delivery, particularly in the U.S. and other markets. Aerobotics provides tools for fruit and tree farmers to manage crop health and yield using AI and drones.

South African startup Aerobotics raises $17M to scale its AI-for-agriculture platform
