The UAE is facing a significant challenge in keeping up with the growing demand for electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure. As of 2023, there were only about 2,000 public charge points across the UAE, with more than 65% being slow chargers. This shows that the current rollout of public charge points is lagging behind EV adoption rates.
The gap between the demand and supply of public charging stations is expected to widen even more in the coming years. By 2035, the UAE will require around 45,000 public charge points to meet the increasing number of EVs on the road, as per the National Electric Vehicles Policy. However, if the current pace of infrastructure development continues, only 10,000 charge points will be available by then—falling well short of the demand.
