Dubai is the commercial capital of the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The UAE is located in the Middle East and borders the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Gulf. The country occupies a strategic location along the Strait of Hormuz, which connects the Persian Gulf to the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea.

The UAE is a relatively small country, ranking 116th in the world in size; it is similar in size to Austria or Portugal with a total coastal line of 1,318 km. It only takes 6-7 hours to drive along the Arabian coast from the far western border with Saudi Arabia to the far Eastern border to Oman.

Approximately 80% of the United Arab Emirates landmass is covered by rolling desert and sand dunes.
