In 2021, Egypt attracted 147 start-up deals and US$491 million in funding.
Egyptian start-ups accounted for 24% of deals closed and 19% of funding across the MENA region (excluding Israel).
Cairo was one of the top 5 performers in terms of startup ecosystem in the region, ranking ahead of Riyadh and Abu Dhabi and behind Dubai.
Its ecosystem is valued at US$1.5 billion and is the first in regional ecosystem for affordable talent and second in regional ecosystem knowledge, as well as being in the top 15 for global emerging ecosystem funding.
