Generative AI may be a global phenomenon, but the next phase of growth will not be evenly distributed. New projections show the global GenAI software market expanding dramatically between 2025 and 2030, with every major region expected to more than double in size. Yet the real story is not just growth—it is where that growth is concentrated.
By 2030, North America and China alone are projected to account for more than US$140 billion in GenAI software spending, highlighting how AI leadership is increasingly becoming a race between established technology powerhouses and rapidly scaling challengers.
North America is expected to grow from US$34.4 billion in 2025 to US$72.6 billion by 2030, maintaining its position as the world's largest GenAI software market.
The region benefits from a powerful combination of AI model developers, cloud infrastructure providers, enterprise software giants, and venture capital ecosystems. Companies are moving beyond experimentation and embedding GenAI directly into workflows across customer service, software development, healthcare, finance, and cybersecurity.
While growth remains strong, North America's challenge over the next five years will be sustaining its lead as other regions accelerate their investments.
China's GenAI software market is projected to surge from US$15.7 billion in 2025 to US$70.4 billion in 2030—nearly matching North America's scale.
The country's rapid expansion reflects aggressive government support, growing domestic AI champions, and widespread enterprise adoption. As restrictions on foreign AI technologies increase, China is also building a more self-sufficient AI ecosystem spanning models, chips, cloud services, and applications.
The data suggests that by the end of the decade, the global GenAI landscape could effectively become a two-horse race between North America and China.
Europe is expected to grow from US$5.1 billion to US$30.8 billion by 2030, representing one of the fastest expansion rates among major regions. Regulatory clarity around AI governance and increasing enterprise adoption are helping drive investment despite a more fragmented technology ecosystem.
Meanwhile, Asia-Pacific excluding China is projected to increase from US$8.3 billion to US$31.9 billion. Markets such as India, Singapore, Japan, South Korea, and Australia are emerging as important AI innovation hubs, supported by strong digital economies and growing demand for AI-powered productivity tools.
Together, Europe and Asia-Pacific are becoming critical growth engines in the global AI economy.
Although starting from a relatively small base, the Middle East & Africa market is expected to expand from US$2.5 billion in 2025 to US$12.1 billion by 2030—nearly a fivefold increase.
Governments across the Gulf are making AI a national priority through sovereign-backed investments, AI infrastructure projects, and digital transformation initiatives. At the same time, African startups are increasingly applying GenAI to solve local challenges in finance, healthcare, agriculture, and education.
The region may not yet rival larger markets in absolute spending, but its growth trajectory highlights the increasing importance of emerging economies in the global AI ecosystem.
Latin America's GenAI software market is projected to grow from US$0.6 billion in 2025 to US$2.2 billion by 2030.
While smaller than other regions, growing digital adoption, cloud penetration, and startup activity are creating new opportunities for AI deployment. As costs decline and AI tools become more accessible, adoption is expected to spread across sectors ranging from financial services to retail and logistics.
The GenAI software market is no longer just about technological innovation—it is becoming a measure of economic competitiveness.
By 2030, North America and China are projected to dominate global spending, but Europe, Asia-Pacific, and the Middle East are rapidly closing the gap through targeted investments and accelerating adoption. The regions that successfully combine AI talent, computing infrastructure, supportive regulation, and enterprise demand will be best positioned to capture the economic value of the AI era.
The next five years will determine not only who builds the most powerful AI systems, but also which regions create the most valuable AI economies.
