Egypt has been a popular tourist destination attracting 13 million tourists at its peak in 2019, with US$14.2 billion in tourism spend. The majority of tourists are Europeans and Arabs.
The country was one of CNN Travel’s 21 top tourist destinations and Forbes’ top 50 Places in the world in 2021.
The hotel occupancy rate is still recovering after the pandemic but hotel supply is expected to grow in 2023, most of them being in the top resort towns of Sharm el-Sheikh and Hurghada.
