Chinese EV subsidies target bigger models with longer ranges per charge. Not all new-energy vehicles qualify for subsidies, like small battery-powered city cars that make up 40% of Chinese EV sales. These cars cost around US$4,000 in China compared to US$26,000 for similar models in the US.
