In 2025, the fundamentals of crypto funding shifted.
Global investment in the sector surged to $34.94 billion, doubling year-over-year (+100%). Yet, at the same time, the number of funding rounds fell 18% to 1,417. The result? A market defined by fewer, significantly larger deals.
The average deal size jumped to $24.66 million, up from $10.04 million in 2024 and $7.93 million in 2023. Capital became more concentrated, signaling renewed conviction — but also greater selectivity.
To understand 2025, it helps to revisit the past two years.
In 2023, crypto was in stabilization mode. Investors deployed $10.51 billion across 1,326 rounds as the market searched for a bottom following a turbulent cycle. Funding was cautious and fragmented, reflecting a period of survival and restructuring.
By 2024, confidence began to return. Funding climbed to $17.43 billion across 1,735 rounds — a 66% increase in dollars and 31% rise in deal count. Token prices stabilized, infrastructure narratives regained traction, and early-stage activity expanded.
Then 2025 broke the pattern.
Instead of more deals driving growth, capital consolidated into larger, later-stage transactions. Investment rotated toward regulated infrastructure — exchanges, derivatives platforms, prime brokerage, payments rails, and treasury software. A reopened IPO window and high-profile M&A transactions also helped reset public market benchmarks for the asset class, restoring institutional appetite.
The distribution of capital tells the real story.
Monthly fundraising spiked in March ($5.79B), June ($4.82B), and October ($5.13B) — periods defined by mega-rounds and strategic transactions.
The first half of 2025 generated $17.14 billion across 775 rounds (average: $22.12M). The second half brought slightly more capital — $17.80 billion — but across only 642 rounds, pushing the average deal size to $27.72M.
As the year progressed, the market’s bias toward larger checks intensified.
In short, 2025 marked crypto’s transition from broad-based recovery to institutional-scale consolidation. Capital didn’t just return, but became more focused, more strategic, and far more concentrated.
